1. Information Kiva collects and how it is collected and used
Kiva collects your personal information directly from you when you register on the Zip Website or otherwise join the Beta Program and if you choose to provide additional personal information during your subsequent use of the Zip Website or participation in the Beta Program. Some personal information is required and some is optional. You can share as much or as little optional personal information as you like. The optional personal information you choose to share on the Zip Website is entirely your own choice, and you share this information at your discretion.
Information you provide to Kiva. Personal information that is required when you register on the Zip Website includes your name, email address, a means to authenticate your account (for example, a password), gender and time zone. Kiva requires this information so that you may log in to the Zip Website, as well as to personalize the content provided to you on the Zip Website and in the Beta Program.
If you are registered as a Trustee or Zip Borrower, Kiva requires and collects additional personal information directly from you to determine your eligibility as a Trustee or Zip Borrower and, for the categories of this information that we indicate is public information, to display on the Zip Website to all Zip Website Users. If you are registered as a Trustee, the types of personal information Kiva requires and collects from you include information regarding you, your impact, your activities and thoughts in connection with Zip Borrower due diligence and the Beta Program, and your photo. If you are registered as a Zip Borrower, the types of personal information Kiva requires and collects from you generally includes financial and credit data, including your date of birth, business-related financial information, household information, income and income sources, savings, credit score, credit history, outstanding debts, as well as general information about you (including your photo), your business, your loan and, in some cases, your Social Security number or equivalent identification number and your credit report.
Kiva collects personal information directly from you when you provide Kiva with updates to your personal information, whether through the Zip Website or by contacting Kiva. You can review the personal information you submit on the Zip Website at any time. If you are registered as a Lender or Trustee, you can update the information you have provided about yourself to Kiva for your profile page and account by logging in to your account on the Zip Website, clicking on the "Edit profile" or “Edit account” links and making changes to you profile or account, as necessary. If you are registered as a Zip Borrower, you can update your personal information by contacting Kiva as described in Section 6 below.
If you contact Kiva with a question or feedback regarding the Zip Website or Beta Program, Kiva collects personal information directly from you in order to respond to your question or feedback.
Use of information you provide.Kiva uses the required and optional personal information that you provide to Kiva to facilitate activities and transactions for the operation of the Zip Website and Beta Program, as well as to improve User experiences on the Zip Website and in the Beta Program. For example, Kiva uses this information to populate your profile page, which is viewable by all Zip Website Users. If you are registered as a Lender, your profile page will automatically show your first name and location that you have provided to Kiva, as well as other optional information that you may provide to Kiva (including your photo and information about your activities and thoughts on Kiva). If you are registered as a Trustee, your profile page will automatically show the personal information that you have provided to Kiva in the portions of your application that we indicate is public. If you are registered as a Borrower and your Loan request is approved for posting by Kiva, your profile page will automatically include that Loan request, which contains the personal information that you have provided to Kiva in the portions of your application that we indicate is public.
Use of information from third parties.Kiva collects your personal information from third parties to facilitate activities and transactions for the operation of the Zip Website and Beta Program, as well as to improve User experiences on the Zip Website and in the Beta Program. For example, if you are registered as a Borrower, your profile page will automatically include information about you (including information about your creditworthiness, credit history, relationship with the Trustee (or lack thereof, in the case of the No Trustee pilot program), the soundness of your business plans, your character, and potential risks and challenges in your life) that a Trustee provides to Kiva. In addition, if you are registered as a Trustee, information about you (including information about the services you have provided to and your impact on the Zip Borrower) that a Zip Borrower provides to Kiva will automatically be included in the Borrower’s profile page. Other third parties from which Kiva may collect your personal information include payment processors and third party tools and programs enabled on the Zip Website, as discussed in more detail below in this Section 1.
Communications from Kiva. Kiva will use your personal information to contact you to facilitate activities and transactions for the operation of the Zip Website and Beta Program, as well as to improve User experiences on the Zip Website and in the Beta Program. For example, Kiva reserves the right to contact you (a) if there is a problem processing a transaction or to discuss a problem with your account, (b) to maintain regular communications with you about your account, activities and transactions on the Zip Website or in the Beta Program (including without limitation to respond to your questions or feedback, to communicate with you about upcoming payments and fund transfer activity, and to provide Loan and Beta Program updates and disclosures), and (c) to implement collection activities, as needed. In addition, Kiva reserves the right to contact you to promote Kiva’s mission, but you may choose to receive no further promotional emails from Kiva by following the unsubscribe or opt-out instructions provided in the promotional email.
2. Information that Kiva shares and with whom
No disclosure for third party marketing. Kiva does not disclose, sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.
Disclosure to third party service providers. Kiva's affiliates, service providers, agents and representatives may be provided access to or otherwise given your personal information as part of, or incident to, their provision of services to Kiva (for example, processing Loan transactions, distributing Kiva emails, implementing collection activities, and reporting delinquencies and defaults). Kiva shares this information with these affiliates, service providers, agents and representatives in order to facilitate activities and transactions for the operation of the Zip Website and Beta Program, as well as to improve User experiences on the Zip Website and in the Beta Program. These affiliates, service providers, agents and representatives are bound by contract to maintain the confidentiality of your personal information.
Disclosure to Zip Website Users.If you are a registered Zip Website User, you will have a profile page that is viewable by all Zip Website Users and displays the personal information that you have provided to Kiva as described in more detail in Section 1 above. In addition, Kiva displays the following information about you on the Zip Website for all Zip Website Users to view:
- If you are registered as a Zip Borrower and your Loan request has been approved for posting by Kiva, information regarding the status of your Loan (for example, “fundraising”, “fully funded”, “paying back”, “paid back”, “delinquent”, “defaulted” or “ended with loss”) and any Loan updates you provide to a Trustee or Kiva;
- If you are registered as a Trustee, Loans for Borrowers that you have endorsed and that have been approved by Kiva for posting and information about these Loans individually and in the aggregate (for example, individual Loan status and the overall repayment rate);
- If you are registered as a Lender, information about the Loans that you have made individually and in the aggregate (for example, individual Loan status, number of Loans made and the distribution of your Loan portfolio).
Non-personally identifiable data. Kiva reserves the right to disclose information that does not directly identify you, for example, aggregated or anonymized data, for educational, informational or promotional purposes in furtherance of Kiva’s mission.
3. Storing and Protecting Your Information
Security. Kiva takes reasonable steps to maintain appropriate physical, technical and administrative security to help prevent loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure and modification of personal information. While we take these reasonable efforts to safeguard your personal information, no system or transmission of data over the Internet or any other public network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. You should not share the password to your Zip Website account with anyone.

You may not register for an account on the Zip Website unless you are 18 years of age or older. Children under the age of 18 are not eligible to participate in the Beta Program.
