Personal Story

I have more than 20 years of experience on the printing industry. I moved from Mexico to the USA in 2007 and worked in a number of different labor jobs until I start my own business in 2009. I was working in a basement until 2010, when I moved to a storefront in New Brunswick on George St. I'm originally from a rural area in Couatla Morelos where I've been working working in this industry since I was 23 years old.

Business Description

I make screen printing on T-shirts, hats, invitation, cups, and calendars. I also have experience in a related industries like tailoring and want to expand my business but I need capital to purchase use equipment that I find on sale.

I share a space with a check cashing business and serve the hispanic community in a city where the hispanic population is almost 90%.

My dream it's to focus all my attention on my business and be able to make all my income from my own business during the year. I don't want to find a temporary job just to cover my personal expenses.

I dream about purchasing my own building to offer all my products and services.

What is the purpose of this loan?

I will purchase a singer sewing machine and a transfer machine, (Professional Sew-Ware) that will allow me to offer more services for our customers that don't drive or need to spend hours in public transportation to get the same type of services.

Tell us about your relationship with this borrower.

We met Felix while doing street outreach in New Brunswick. We helped him negotiate a better retail space in his same location. Previously, he was selling items from the basement and now he is on the first floor by the window facing the street where customers can walk by and see his merchandise. Felix has borrowed twice from the Intersect Fund, his first loan was to buy out his partner, who had equally invested in the equipment, so that Felix could be the sole owner. The second loan was to purchase additional materials to fill customer orders.

Tell us about this borrower's personality and character, and why you are endorsing him or her for a Kiva Zip loan.

Felix is a hardworking businessman who keeps a part time wage job in addition to managing his business. He always made payments to the Intersect Fund on time and we believe he has excellent character.

Tell us about this borrower's business, and why you believe a Kiva Zip loan will contribute to his or her success.

Felix owns Estampados Kool, a screen printing business that sells custom apparel and paper printing (i.e. quinciñera invitations). He needs a Kiva Zip loan to purchase new equipment, which will immediately improve his ability to serve more customer orders and increase his business income. We made a video about Felix that you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruirqighLSA&feature=plcp.
