Personal Story

I was born in Veracruz, Mexico from a family of 9 brothers and sisters. I was thought to be constant and to work towards my goals. I remember when I was about 8 years old I would go to my school in the mornings and then in the afternoon I would sell tacos and enchiladas to help with the house needs. That was one of many things I was thought to do and I have never forgotten it. At the age of 16 I arrived to the USA and started pursuing my dreams by working hard as a house painter, cooker, babysitter, housekeeper, etc. each and every of these jobs have been of much enriched experience to me. I also can recall one of the hardest jobs I did and it was about 7 years ago in an Ethiopian restaurant in which I had to learn to cook their specialties as well as interact in other languages other than Spanish with the clients I worked in that place until they closed their business. As of today, I live in San Francisco City with my 2 children who go to school while in the meantime I'm self-employed, selling clothes, perfumes, make ups, etc., and also work part time as a house keeper. It will mean a lot to receive your help ASAP due that my business has grown and I need more resources to improve them.

Business Description

My business provides clothes, accessories, shoes, make ups and more at an affordable price to the public. I could say that since I arrived to the USA one of my dreams I kept working for was to have my own business and after my youngest child started preschool and my daughter begun elementary school I decided it was time for me to create Kevanst which stands for Kevin-Eva-Stephanie. My biggest challenge was leaving my stable job and starting from scratch, creating my clientele and working around my kids' schedules and at the same time trying to pay my rent and bills as usual, on time. I have a big variety of customers, from Ethiopian to Mexican, from kids to seniors because Kevanst offers them variety and good prices. My short term goal consists in using the loan to insert new products that my customers have requested a lot such as electronics and art supplies as well as a medium-long term goal to provide others with jobs by offering them part time positions while I expand my business in other places and with other people in the city. I feel very proud of the quality of my business because everything I offer to my customers, I sell it as if it was for me and people love that. More than the price I give them (which is great) it’s also the quality attention I offer them too.

What is the purpose of this loan?

The purpose of this loan is to insert new products that about 50% of my customers have requested a lot such as electronics and art supplies. By upgrading my store my family will have more revenue and also I could start saving more for my daughter's college education. I know my business will gain more popularity and profits faster after I enhance it by adding new articles to it.

Tell us about this borrower's business, and why you believe a Kiva Zip loan will contribute to his or her success.

Eva has a general retail store which she has worked on for about 6 months. Her customers always bring more customers because of the way she treats them, and the good prices she gives them. The loan she is requesting for sure will be a boost to her business because she will definitely use it to buy things customers has requested already and she hasn't been able to save enough money to put it together. This also will create a more stable business so she can work in a medium term goal to expand it.
