Personal Story

I am a born entrepreneur! Even if that's not how others saw me, that's how I saw myself. I grew up in an entrepreneurial family, who sometimes denied and downplayed their entrepreneurial bloodline. I then went on to work in community and enterprise development where I met women with similar stories of denied or delayed aspirations of ownership and leadership; women who felt that being female (and maybe also minority) meant they would not be given the same consideration and encouragement as their entrepreneurial and innovating male counterparts. The turning point was the birth of my first daughter, in whose eyes I saw a tiny beautiful black girl whose dreams I would never want to delay or deny.

After brainstorming with my husband, She-EO® was born. Three daughters later - my Future SheEOs - I have now taken She-EO®, LLC from a draft in 2003. It is now a business that produces programs, training, events and products designed around a mission to inspire and empower current and future SheEOs everywhere!

Business Description

Our vision is A GIRL IN CHARGE today, is tomorrow's CEO. The mission of She-EO, LLC is to provide tools and training that help ladies lead and succeed in business and in life. We deliver this mission and vision through Camp SheEO®, The SheEO® Academy workshops, BusinessGirls™ by SheEO® events, and various enrichment publications. I conceived the business while in business school and decided to move forward after encountering many women who expressed a lack of motivation and encouragement as girls dreaming of entrepreneurship.

My customers are motivated and creative young ladies ages 8-18, their parents, and their supporters. I am proud to say that our camps and classes can now be found all over Northern Virginia. Now with a proven system, my goal is to expand into communities EVERYWHERE. There are thousands of girls across the country who have what it takes to be a SheEO®! Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook today.

What is the purpose of this loan?

We will use this generous loan to share Camp SheEO® with new communities and empower more young ladies to explore careers in entrepreneurship. This loan could be the resource my family needs to increase our business and transition me into a full-time mompreneur!

We will focus on two main goals: 1) creating TWO additional camp systems with training, camp materials and marketing, and 2) initial launch of our 'career day' series of children's books - inspired by my daughters and other SheEO® graduates. We know our target customer profile and have been approached by parents of girls outside our current market. This resource will help us reach those families and meet that growing demand.

The borrower's business is an entrepreneurial program for girls ages 10-15. She operates summer camps throughout Fairfax, Stafford and surrounding counties. These camps are a week long program geared towards exposing the girls to the concept of entrepreneurship. She brings in guest speakers for each weekly camp session and actively promotes the program online and off-line. She has built up a small base of sponsors. She also has work sessions throughout the year that the girls can enroll in. The program is well designed and fit the age demographic.
