Personal Story

I was born in Fairfax, VA, though I was raised for the most part in Detroit, MI. I worked numerous jobs before landing my dream job which matched my major of sales and economics.

At the University of Michigan-Dearborn, they prepared me academically with the skills and knowledge for such the role as an executive assistant. It was my dream sales position in the corporate world, but it demanded a better wardrobe than what I had in my closet. I ended up nearly breaking my bank account getting the right clothes for the job.

During a prestigious event supporting my executive, I was inappropriately dressed. My skirt was too short and I had open toe shoes. Not only did I embarrass myself but I was an embarrassment to the company I was representing.

That life changing experience inspired me to start Trish’s Garage, a fashion boutique that helps students, recent grads, and young professionals to put looks together on a budget.

I want to help college students who are making the transition from school to work without breaking the bank. Part of my business is consulting on the best clothing buys to make. The other part is providing my customer with affordable options.

Business Description

Trish’s Garage is a social and community based fashion store that provides image workshops as well as clothing and accessories. My sister and I decided to start this business in 2007, because we didn’t want anyone to go through the horrible experience of not presenting themselves properly. An important factor is that your first impression whether verbal or non-verbal, is your last impression. We wanted to be able to provide some helpful tricks and tips so that you make the best impression.

Most of our customers are young professionals that live and work in the Detroit area. We have an extremely solid customer base. In the future we plan to expand our business by building a network of student styling services that use our social and image consulting practices. We want to design a system in which it makes it easy for other stores to participate in styling workshops so that any young adult is prepared for the real world.

We understand that looks aren’t everything, but we want to make sure you are presenting the best asset of your true self. My life’s purpose is to satisfies a need and simplify my customers life, by making them feel great and purchasing affordable clothing options.

What is the purpose of this loan?

With the $5000 loan, $3000 will be spent on our first batch clothing and merchandise, $500 on material for all my workshops and advertising, $1000 to grow the shop with a more visual appeal and the remaining balance to help me explore additional initiatives. I am also going to use the loan to start promoting what we are doing in our community in order to attract more customers, which will help us grow as well as do more for the community.
