Personal Story

I grew up in Kisumu Town, Migosi estate where my family resides to date. It was quite interesting growing up with neighbours from different ethnic backgrounds, thus making us learn a lot of things.
I am still in Kisumu town at the moment in the same estate where I grew up.
I dream of being a farmer and being able to grow produce and sell to Kisumu residents.

Personal Update - Aug 13, 2013

I have managed to incease sales by at least 10% and my marketing strategy has paid off

Business Description

Takawiri produces paper from water hyacinth which is a noxious weed found in Lake Victoria. We utilize our skills to clean the lake and also make beautiful hand made paper products. The goal of this business is to provide the youth with opportunity to make money instead of relying on aid. Our biggest challenge is the lack of machines for expanding our work.

Business Update - Aug 13, 2013

The clients have commended my business and given me more work because of the readily available tools and materials thereby making me busy every day

Tell us about this borrower's personality and character, and why you are endorsing him or her for a Kiva Zip loan.

He is hard working and has shown commitment to his work. He has further been able to repay loans that he was given by the banks when KICK was his trustee

Tell us about this borrower's business, and why you believe a Kiva Zip loan will contribute to his or her success.

Mike runs a hand made paper business and supplies shops around the country and also attends exhibitions. His business has been recognized as a truly green business since it aims at eradicating the water hyacinth problem in Lake Victoria. If given the loan, he will be able to expand his business to make more products and to employ more people thereby ensuring that his business feeds more families. The challenge I foresee may be when his products do not sell as intended, he will then have to look for other ways of paying this loan.
