Personal Story

I grew up in the South Bronx during the 1980's, surrounded by a lot of drugs and poverty. My parents were never married and I did not know my father until a couple of years before he was murdered.

I got involved with hustlers around my neighborhood which led to nothing but trouble and 12 years in federal prison for drug-conspiracy charges. Since my release in 2011, I have not looked back at my past and have turned over a new leaf. It took years of self transformation, but I am proud of the man that walked out of those federal correction institutions. I am not the same person that went in.

I started taking courses at Marist College and attended parenting classes, I became active in church services and enjoyed the new man I was becoming. The attention and respect of the streets did not appeal as much to me as much as being a better father, son and brother to my family. Since my release, I have not stopped devoting my time to my family, while still maintaining employment. I have completed several national certification courses to better myself and maintain a positive lifestyle.

My only reason for visiting my old community, is to partner up with an established tax-realtor business and donate school supplies to children in the community I helped tarnish. I am still currently active in my local church and have proudly completed my federal release probation without any incident.

I want to be a legitimate entrepreneur unlike before I was incarcerated. I graduated from Defy Ventures, an entrepreneur development training course. Defy Ventures provides all the resources necessary to individuals coming home from prison to start their business. My family is really proud and amazed at the 180-degree turnaround my life has taken. I am motivated everyday to do and become better as a man, son, father and business man. Not only do I plan to contribute through my business but also through my story. I hope I can reach our new generation with my new legacy.

Business Description

My business is an Eco-friendly cleaning company, servicing commercial buildings in the New York Tri-state area. We help control pollution and bring better quality air for health conscious clients. Upon client's request, we remove furniture to provide good service to those missed spots or corners, which are usually ignored. After receiving my certifications in the green industry, I saw an opportunity when New York City commercial buildings were mandated to go green. This would help bring sustainability to our planet and future generation.

My challenge is branding the company, my competitors are well established and have a bigger presence. My customers are buildings who are in need of going green and improving the air quality environment. In 2013, New York City implemented new building code laws for better energy efficiency. My goals for the business are to be able to lease transportation vehicle to help expand the business, create heavy traffic on my website and brand recognition.

I am proud of bringing awareness and education in how to live without polluting our planet. The response to a green movement touches the heart.

What is the purpose of this loan?

A loan of $5,000 would help me buy a strip and buff machine, which can also shampoo and wash rugs and do tile floors. In addition, we can get a decent used van for efficient and optimal delivery of service and to transport equipment.
